The value lies in the art, not in the sales. Price ≠ Value
You're doing maths, not curating art. So I took a look over some of our "leading Light" accounts in the crypto art space. I scrolled back a few weeks, a month or 2 maybe, on each of them, and you know what I saw? Not a single post talking about the actual art. Oh sure there were threads describing artists rises (as documented by their first and last sales). There were "get to know this artist" articles, which may as well have been a plot graph of past sales decorated by the odd platitude. Exclamations of the art worlds progress (as "proved" by Christies auctions) and even some celebrations of small artists (because they had been bought by a large "collector"). But none of these held any real comment on the art, none of them managed contemporary comparison, or made note of historical inspiration. None talked about the intersection of medium and message, not one of them talked about technical mastery, or how that proficiency came from part of the artists life. None of them sought to interpret the major topics the art works put forth, nor did they purport an explanation of their emotional impact beyond the most basic of statements. Certainly none of them produced any content seeking to educate beyond this space, looking at the wealth of history that dwarfs all that our present is. And all I could think was, why? Some of these people make more in a month than my entire writing team combined makes in a year, surely they can allocate the same time we do to researching and writing. Whilst I know that isnt an total 1-1 comparison, I do think its fair, we all have multiple jobs outside this, but we still find the time and energy to show up for the love of the damn thing. So it is mind boggling how ostensibly their online brand is Art curator/collector/CHAMPION, and yet this weakly disguised financial summary is the sum total of their contribution to the spaces art discussion and education. It makes you wonder, if they truly care so deeply for this, why are they are unable to ever express it in a language that isn't financial. What would they do in a barter economy? Can they actually talk about art in emotion and history not numbers and charts? Or is this all just set dressing on the dollar? And perhaps the most important question is the one all those other questions create, should they really be the ones representing art on chain? - My thanks to @exchgART and @bonk_inu Art Master for doing more than just maths
