the biggest trap I fell into as a founder was being obsessed with building a scaling product from day one.
this mindset was toxic early on. it pushed us away from customers. we would have spent years trying to build a general purpose solution before hitting the market. in our case a private verifiable VM + a network.
we avoided anything that looked like customization. it didn’t fit the standard playbook and everyone told us it would just distract us. listening to this nearly killed us. we lost contact to the people who actually needed what we were building.
the turning point was doubling down on high-profile use cases. our work with Worldcoin on iris uniqueness checks and with Aztec on private shared state showed what MPC can actually do in practice.
could these solutions cover every use case? not even close. but they proved feasibility and validated the market in a way a “perfect general VM” never could.
in web2 it would be insane to spend years building the ideal product without real market signals. crypto(graphy) infra shouldn’t be different.
now we get feedback every week. and a lot of things we once thought were “too customized” turned out to be exactly what other teams needed as well.
building a scaling product too early almost broke us. focusing on real, painful use cases is what finally moved the needle.
